Russia says Trump’s plan best option currently, but not a final solution to Palestinian issue

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that a Palestinian state must be established following the implementation of US President Donald Trump’s Gaza plan.

This came during Lavrov’s meeting with journalists in Moscow, according to a statement issued by the Russian Foreign Ministry on Monday.

In response to journalist questions, Lavrov indicated that Moscow views Trump’s plan for Gaza as “the best option on the table,” but not as a solution to the Palestinian issue.

“The Trump plan only includes Gaza. This plan includes terms about the (Palestinian) state, but they must be detailed. The fate of the West Bank must be determined,’ he explained.

“UN resolutions stipulate the establishment of a Palestinian state with full territorial integrity within the 1967 borders. Russia, like many members of the international community, is committed to implementing these resolutions.”

He continued, “I believe that these plans are currently being implemented, and we hope for success in this endeavor, while emphasizing, of course, that the plan will be fully implemented, that the goals will not change midway, and that the rules of the game will not change.”
