
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty lauded the UAE’s support for Egyptian candidate Khaled al-Anany for the post of UNESCO director-general.
The UNESCO Executive Board will convene on Monday to elect the agency’s next director-general.Abdelatty made the remarks during his meeting with the UAE’s Permanent Delegate to UNESCO Ali Alhaj Al Ali, in the presence of the representative of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) to UNESCO, according to a statement released by the Foreign Ministry.
The foreign minister is in Paris to lead Egypt’s delegation to the UNESCO Executive Board meetings and spearhead support for Anany’s bid for the UN agency’s director-general.The top Egyptian diplomat said the Emirati backing of Anany reflects the depth of relations between Egypt and the UAE and shows their shared commitment to strengthening the Arab presence within international organizations.
