Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi received a phone call from French President Emmanuel Macron on Saturday.
The Spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency, Mohamed al-Shennawy, said the call followed up the outcomes of the virtual summit held on September 15 at the invitation of President Macron to discuss regional developments, mainly the war on the Gaza Strip and Israel’s recent attack on Qatar.
President Sisi hailed the French president’s initiative to call for this summit, which aimed to discuss ways to de-escalate tension in the region.
The call also addressed the ongoing preparations for the two-state solution conference, scheduled for September 22, on the sidelines of the high-level segment of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The importance of this conference was emphasized as a pivotal step toward recognizing the State of Palestine, implementing the principle of the two-state solution, and establishing an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
President Sisi reiterated his welcome of France’s announcement of its intention to recognize the State of Palestine, viewing this step as a positive contribution towards realizing comprehensive peace in the Middle East.
He called on countries that have not yet recognized Palestine to take similar steps, in support of the international process toward ending the conflict and achieving stability.
Sisi also briefed the French president on the most important outcomes of the emergency Arab-Islamic summit held in Doha.
