The Juvenile Appellate Court in 6th of October City, presided over by Judge Hossam al-Badawi, has upheld a previous verdict to place Ali, the son of actor Mohamed Ramadan, in a social care home after he was convicted of assaulting another child at a well-known club.
The session, which convened on Tuesday, saw the absence of both Ramadan and his son, despite their prior announcement that they would appeal the ruling.
The court considered their absence without an official excuse as confirmation of the initial verdict’s validity, leading it to a final affirmation at the appellate level.
The case began with a complaint filed by a mother whose child was assaulted at a prominent club in the 6th of October City.
She reported that her son sustained bruises and redness on his face.
Based on the Public Prosecution’s investigations, Ali Mohamed Ramadan was referred to the Juvenile Court, which had issued a ruling in absentia in May to place him in a disciplinary care home. This initial verdict was issued after he and his father failed to attend a previous trial session, with the father citing a health issue at the time.
Despite Mohamed Ramadan’s announcement on social media that he had reached a family reconciliation with the victim’s family, and his posting of photos documenting the meeting, the court continued to hear the case.
It ruled that the incident constituted a crime punishable by law and its effect could not be waived by a friendly settlement alone.
A judicial source, speaking after the ruling was issued, said that “the court’s decision reflects its commitment to protecting the rights and safety of children within society.”
The source added that the ruling sends a clear message that “any assault on a minor cannot be dismissed by reconciliation alone.”
Ali Mohamed Ramadan’s defense team clarified that they will appeal the ruling to the Court of Cassation as soon as they receive the reasoned decision.
The lawyer stressed that their goal is not just to seek acquittal but also to “mitigate the psychological and legal impact on a child who is still of school age.”
