Security authorities at Fayoum Security Directorate received a notification from the emergency police on Friday that two children had drowned in the Bahr waterway at Raafat village, of Fayoum City.
Police forces and ambulances immediately responded to the scene.
The body of one of them was transferred to Fayoum General Hospital, while the search continues for the second.
The two children had been bathing in the Bahr Yussef waters to escape the heat. The current swept them away, and they were unable to escape.
Ambulances were dispatched to the scene, and the child recovered by the river rescue forces was transferred to the Fayoum General Hospital morgue at the disposal of the Public Prosecution Office, which assigned a health inspector to conduct a medical examination of the body and determine the cause of death, which was determined to be asphyxiation due to drowning.
