
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, met on Monday, September 1st, with the European Commissioner for Crisis Management, Hadja Lahbib, on the sidelines of the Bled Forum in Slovenia.
During the meeting, Minister Abdelatty commended the positive developments witnessed in Egypt’s relations with the European Union since the joint announcement in March 2024.
It elevates relations to a comprehensive strategic partnership, affirming Egypt’s keenness to continue implementing the six pillars of the partnership in a manner that serves the mutual interests of both sides.
The meeting addressed regional developments, foremost among them the situation in the Gaza Strip. Minister Abdelatty briefed the European Official on Egypt’s efforts to reach a ceasefire, secure the release of hostages and detainees, and ensure the delivery of humanitarian and relief assistance, particularly in light of the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Strip, highlighting that the situation has reached the point of famine as a result of the intensification of Israeli aggression.
He stressed the importance of the European Union taking serious and effective steps to pressure Israel to cease fire, put an end to its blatant violations, and compel it to abide by international law and international humanitarian law. He also informed the Commissioner of Egypt’s ongoing efforts to facilitate the entry of humanitarian aid into the Strip.
The meeting also touched on developments in Sudan, where Minister Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s position in support of Sudanese state institutions, and the necessity of respecting the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of Sudan.
In this regard, he highlighted Egypt’s readiness to engage with initiatives aimed at reaching an immediate ceasefire and alleviating the humanitarian suffering endured by the brotherly Sudanese people.
