Man arrested after fatally stabbing a boy in Giza supermarket

In a tragic incident on Tuesday evening, a young man was arrested in Mohandessin, Giza Governorate, after he fatally stabbed a boy inside a popular supermarket, leaving witnesses in shock.

According to security sources, the suspect attacked the victim with a sharp object to the neck, causing him to fall to the ground in a pool of blood.

The suspect attempted to flee but was apprehended by several residents and handed over to the police, who arrived at the scene immediately.

According to accounts from the supermarket’s staff, the victim, identified as Abdelrahman, was having breakfast with his colleagues when the 35-year-old suspect entered the store. Abdelrahman and another approached him to ask what he wanted.

Moments later, the suspect pulled out a knife.

When Abdelrahman asked him what he was doing, the man lunged at him and stabbed him directly in the neck. Surveillance cameras captured the horrific scene, showing the boy collapsing as others stood back in stunned disbelief.

Initial investigations revealed that the suspect, who works at a well-known barbershop, had a history of being accused in several cases and suffers from mental health disorders.

There was no prior acquaintance or relationship between him and the victim.

Following his arrest, the suspect was taken to the Dokki police station, where the Public Prosecution began its interrogation. Detectives have listened to statements from witnesses, including supermarket employees and neighbors. Surveillance footage from the store and surrounding shops has also been secured.

Detectives are continuing to gather information to determine the true motive behind the crime, as there are conflicting reports on whether the suspect was attempting a robbery or if the attack had another motive.

The investigation also revealed that the suspect had previously undergone psychiatric treatment, but the nature of his condition or his recent stability is unknown.

On Wednesday evening, Abdelrahman’s family arrived at the Zenhom morgue to retrieve his body. This followed the Public Prosecution’s decision for an autopsy by forensic medicine and the suspect’s detention for four days pending further investigation.
