President Sisi discusses Red Sea protection with Eritrean Foreign Minister

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi received Eritrean Foreign Minister Osman Saleh on Sunday, discussing matters such as Red Sea protection.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty, and the head of the General Intelligence Service Hassan Rashad.

The official spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency, Mohamed al-Shenawy, explained that the meeting addressed ways to restore peace and stability in Sudan, protecting the Red Sea, and strengthening the efforts of coastal states in governing and securing it.

The meeting firmly rejected any role imposed by any non-coastal state in this regard.

The Spokesperson added that the meeting also addressed the situation in the Horn of Africa and enhancing stability in the region, both through the joint efforts of the two countries and through tripartite coordination with Somalia.

Both sides affirmed Egypt and Eritrea’s commitment towards supporting Somalia in combating terrorism and preserving its unity and territorial integrity.

Shenawy said that President Sisi emphasized the depth of relations between both nations and Egypt’s keenness to strengthen them further.
