Egyptian Electricity Minister Mahmoud Esmat confirmed that the government has taken measures to ensure that the power outages seen last year will not recur this summer.
During statements made on the sidelines of an Iftar banquet held at the Electricity Club in Ismailia, Esmat added that no instructions have been issued regarding any increase in electricity bills.
Consumption rates have witnessed a significant increase over the past period, the minister said, amidst noticeably improved stability in the network.
He assured that the ministry will continue to take all necessary measures to combat electricity theft.
A ministry source explained that current consumption bill prices, in effect since August, were set based on the dollar exchange rate without specifying a date for review.
The ministry also stipulated that they are linked to the dollar exchange rate, decreasing with a decrease and increasing with an increase.
During a press conference on the sidelines of the inauguration of the Canal Electricity Distribution Company’s customer service center, the minister revealed that the load-shedding the country experienced last year will not return.
“The prime minister promised to do so in September, and we are committed to implementing it,” the minister said.
He explained that the state is working to ensure a regular and uninterrupted electricity supply during the coming summer, and that the president is closely monitoring renewable energy projects.
