Ahly issues response following withdrawal against Zamalek

The executive director of the Al-Ahly Club, Saad Shalaby, confirmed that the board of directors is in permanent session to discuss recent developments involving the club canceling its match with Zamalek.

Referee Mahmoud Bassiouni announced the end of the Ahly and Zamalek match in the 2024-25 Egyptian Premier League season on Tuesday evening.

The referee blew the final whistle after waiting, along with the match commissioner, for Ahly players to show up for 20 minutes.

Shalaby told Al-Ahly TV that “We are awaiting any official letters to present to the board of directors, which is in permanent session, to discuss the situation.”

He continued, “Our official position on Zamalek match was announced in a clear statement, and we are committed to the Egyptian Professional League’s decision to appoint foreign referees for matches, upon the official letter to the Egyptian Football Association.”
