Egypt announces new date for emergency Arab summit

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry announced on Tuesday that the emergency Arab summit on Palestine will be held in Cairo on March 4 instead of February 27.

In a statement on its official Facebook page, the ministry said that: “Egypt will host the emergency Arab summit on developments in the Palestinian issue on March 4, 2025 in Cairo, as part of completing the objective and logistical preparations for the summit.”

The ministry’s statement added that “The new date was set after coordination with the Kingdom of Bahrain, the current president of the Arab League Council at the summit level, and in consultation with Arab countries.”

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry had previously announced that Egypt would host an emergency Arab summit to discuss recent “dangerous” developments regarding the Palestinian issue.

The ministry said in a statement at the time: “Egypt will host an emergency Arab summit on February 27, 2025 in Cairo, after coordination with the Kingdom of Bahrain, the current president of the Arab Summit, and the General Secretariat of the Arab League.”

Trump’s controversial plan

US President Donald Trump said that he is “committed to buying and owning Gaza and may give parts of it to other countries in the Middle East to rebuild,” Reuters reported on Sunday.

Trump told reporters on board Air Force One that he would look into individual cases to allow Palestinian refugees into the US.

Egypt rejects displacement

Sisi has previously stressed Egypt’s absolute rejection of the displacement of the people of Gaza, saying: “I say it with utmost frankness… the displacement and deportation of the Palestinian people is an injustice in which we cannot participate.”

He stressed Egypt’s consistent position supporting the Palestinian cause, which can never be relinquished in any way.

During a joint press conference with his Kenyan counterpart William Ruto at al-Ittihadiya Presidential Palace late January, President Sisi added: “If I asked for this from the Egyptian people, they would all take to the streets and tell me no, do not participate in injustice.”
