Workers at the Cairo Opera House have reported delayed payments for their external bonuses by up to nearly three months.
The chairperson of the Cairo Opera House, Lamia Zayed told Al-Masry Al-Youm, “The singers met today (Wednesday) with their managers, and it was agreed to pay their bonuses within a maximum of four days.”
Lamia added: “I have re-evaluated the bonuses of a large number of singers and musicians over the past months and increased them, and I was keen to provide the financial liquidity to cover the bonuses, but the idea of some singers gathering and objecting, and so on, is rejected and I will not accept it at any time. Indeed, the singers did their rehearsals tonight without any problem, and they understood the matter.”
A large number of singers had met on Wednesday to object to protest their delayed bonuses, including Inas Ezz al-Din, Noha Hafez, Sabreen al-Nigily, and Asmaa Kamal.
An official source at the Cairo Opera House told Al-Masry Al-youm a few days ago that the issue was on its way being to resolved, as work is underway to provide the necessary financial appropriations to disburse dues to all concerned employees.
The source confirmed that the problem was only related to bonuses and not wages, assuring that employee salaries are paid regularly on their due dates.
