Egyptian unions protest Trump’s statements on displacement of Palestinians

Ten Egyptian professional unions, led by the Journalists Syndicate, sent a letter to the US Embassy in Cairo on Sunday expressing their strong rejection and condemnation of US President Donald Trump’s statements regarding the displacement of Palestinians.

The Egyptian unions sent the letter in Arabic and English confirming that “as representatives of five million Egyptian professionals, we declare our absolute rejection of the displacement of Palestinian people.”

The Egyptian professional unions that signed the statement included the unions of journalists, engineers, lawyers, doctors, actors, cinema professionals, dentists, veterinarians, applicators and commercial professionals.

The unions explained in the letter addressed to the US Ambassador to Cairo, Herro Mustafa Garg that, “What the US President said represents a blatant and direct attack on the sovereignty and security of the entire Arab nation, in addition to violating international law.”

The letter expressed Egypt’s permanent support for the rights of the Palestinians, its historical role in supporting the Palestinian people, and its firm position on rejecting the displacement of Palestinians from their homeland.

“Any step towards the displacement of Palestinians constitutes a crime against humanity, and that any support for such measures is support for ethnic cleansing and a complete disregard for the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination,” the letter stressed.

The Egyptian unions assured their firm support for the Egyptian government in rejecting any plan that undermines Palestinian sovereignty, and the state’s support for the legitimate right of the Palestinians to establish their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.

In their letter, the Egyptian unions called on the US President to retract his speech regarding the displacement of Palestinians, and to end international and American collusion in support of Israel’s brutal occupation and aggression against the Palestinian people.

The Egyptian unions has agreed to send letters to the United Nations, the European Commission and international organizations rejecting Trump’s statements and “demanding international action to prosecute Zionist war criminals and pressure for a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue.”
