CAIRO, Feb 2 (MENA) – Khaled al-Enany, Egypt’s candidate for UNESCO Director-General post, visited Iceland on Sunday as part of his campaign efforts, accompanied by Egypt’s Ambassador to Norway and Iceland Gamal Abdel Rahim Metwali and the campaign director, Minister Plenipotentiary Wael Abdel Wahab.
During the visit, Anany met with many Icelandic officials, including the Minister of Education and Childhood, senior foreign and cultural affairs representatives, the Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Advisor, and Iceland’s UNESCO delegates.
Anany outlined his vision for UNESCO, stressing the vital role of inclusive dialogue with member states to develop a comprehensive strategy addressing global challenges.
Icelandic officials welcomed the visit, reaffirming their commitment to UNESCO’s role in education, cultural heritage protection, human rights, and crisis response.
They also hailed Anany’s inclusive approach and the need to enhance UNESCO’s effectiveness in tackling global issues.
