Four mobile service companies in Egypt intend to launch Wi-Fi Calling service starting Monday
The National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority will hold a press conference on Monday to announce the details of the new service, which is being implemented in Egypt for the first time.
This step comes under the Ministry of Communications’ orders to improve the quality of communication services in all regions, as Wi-Fi calls will be the appropriate alternative to make calls in areas with weaker communication networks.
What is a Wi-Fi Calling Service?
This new service allows you to make calls over the Internet instead of relying on traditional communication networks, but with the same customer number and at the cost of a regular minute.
When this service is activated, users can make and receive calls using the Wi-Fi network if the signal is weak or unavailable, allowing for a continued communication service even in the absence of a traditional communication signal.
An official source in the communications sector confirmed that the goal of providing Wi-Fi calls is to improve services and provide several more ways to communicate, especially in areas that suffer from weak networks or the absence of communication towers to allow for high-quality voice calls.
He explained that according to the ministry’s plan, Wi-Fi calls were scheduled to be launched in the first quarter of this year, as part of the service improvement plan, which included directing the financial value of companies’ violations of quality standards to improve the service.
