New decisions on organizing visits to Grand Egyptian Museum

The Grand Egyptian Museum’s (GEM) authority has chosen to implement new official opening dates for the GEM starting in February, for the main exhibition halls and areas witnessing trial operation.

The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities explained in a statement on Saturday that this comes “in implementation of the decision of the Board of Directors of the Museum’s Authority in its latest session and in light of the continued trial operation in the museum.”

The CEO of the GEM Authority Ahmed Ghoneim explained that the new timings that will be applied in summer and winter throughout the week from nine am to six pm, except for the month of Ramadan, when the timings will be until four pm.

Ghoneim added that the museum doors will be open for an evening period on Saturdays and Wednesdays of each week, from nine am to nine pm.

He noted that the GEM’s administration will begin implementing the list of exemptions and various discounts on museum entry tickets that were approved by the Board of Directors in its latest session.

 

A Grand Museum

The GEM, located near the Giza Pyramids, is one of the largest museums in the world dedicated to a single civilization.

The museum extends over an area of ​​approximately 500,000 square meters and includes more than 100,000 artifacts, including the complete collection of King Tutankhamun, which consists of 5,390 pieces.

The trial operation of the GEM began on October 16 in 12 main exhibition halls covering an area of ​​about 18,000 square meters, and provides a comprehensive view of the history of ancient Egypt from the pre-dynastic era to the Greco-Roman era.
