The Coptic Catholic Church in Egypt, in conjunction with the global Catholic Church, has categorically denied rumors suggesting the possibility of ordaining individuals with same-sex attraction as priests.
The statement further emphasized that “while the Church affirms its respect for all persons, it cannot accept those who practice homosexuality, or have homosexual inclinations, or support what is called homosexual culture, in theological schools or the priesthood.”
The Egyptian Catholic Church attached to the statement a translated text from the Italian language of the 2025 Guidelines for Theological Schools, specifically Article 44, regarding individuals with same-sex attractions who seek to enter religious institutions or who discover this situation during their training.
The article stated, “The educational authority and the Church, while deeply respecting the persons concerned, cannot allow those who practice homosexuality, or who have deeply rooted homosexual inclinations, to enter the theological school or the sacred orders.”
