A video of a woman claiming to have found evidence of young women in Egypt being kidnapped and having their organs harvested has gone viral, leading to outrage and calls for action.
However, the Interior Egyptian Ministry refuted these claims in a statement published on its social media pages on Friday.
The statement said: “Security sources denied in full detail the veracity of what was circulated in a video clip on social media, which included a woman’s claim that there were incidents of young women being kidnapped in Qena, and others being found without organs in front of a hospital, and the spread of female gangs to kidnap young ladies after drugging them.”
“The woman who posted the aforementioned video clip (residing in Qena) was identified and seized. When confronted, she admitted to publishing the aforementioned video without knowing any facts in this regard with the aim of achieving high viewing rates and financial profits,” the statement added.
“Legal measures were taken against her (the suspect) for her false claim,” the Egyptian Interior Ministry said.
