Egypt seeking to lure 30 million tourists by 2030

Chairman of the General Federation of Tourism Chambers Hossam al-Shaer said Monday that Egypt eyes a surge in the flow of tourists to 30 million by to 2030.

A joint plan should be outlined with all ministries and bodies concerned, Shaer said in an interview with Nile News.

Shaer said his Federation works closely with the Tourism Ministry to achieve that.

He unveiled a plan to upgrade roads that serve tourism, such as the Abu Simbel road, the Hurghada-Luxor road and the western road of Luxor and Aswan. This is meant to merge tourist cities, Shaer noted.

He also underscored the importance of yacht tourism and stressed the need to increase the number of hotel rooms.

Shaer praised an initiative by the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) to support the tourism sector, noting that it contributed to bolstering many tourism projects which serve the Egyptian economy.
