Egypt on Sunday expressed its total rejection and condemnation of the Israeli government’s decision to expand settlements within the occupied Golan Heights, calling it a flagrant violation of Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
In a statement from the Foreign Ministry, Egypt warned that Israel’s plans to expand settlements in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights violate international law and are part of its attempts to impose a fait accompli policy.
It once again reflects Israel’s lack of desire to achieve any peace in the region, and continues its aims towards seizing Arab lands, the statement said, adding that this is a flagrant violation of international law and conventions, including the Four Geneva Conventions, as Israel is an occupying power.
Egypt called on the active international parties and the Security Council to assume their responsibilities in rejecting these violations of Syrian sovereignty and putting an end to Israeli settlements.
