The Center for Migration and Refugee Studies (CMRC) at The American University in Cairo (AUC) has announced the second phase of the Egyptian Migration Hub Project (EHUB) following its successful first phase, funded by the European Delegation in Egypt (EU) and supported by the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
The event is scheduled to be held on Monday from nine am to one pm in the Oriental Hall located at AUC Tahrir Square.
It will convene national and international policymakers to discuss critical migration challenges and opportunities facing Egypt. The discussions will be informed by the project’s research findings on Egyptian labor migration and the socio-economic integration of migrants and refugees.
Moreover, a panel discussion will explore the growing demand for Egyptian workers in international labor markets.
In June 2022, CMRC, with the support of the EU, launched the EHUB Phase I, a platform for academics, practitioners, and government officials to address pressing migration issues in the country.
In its inaugural phase, the project organized a series of events, including national dialogues, a high-level forum, podcasts, and media training, to tackle the challenging situation of immigrants.
The event will be highlighted by opening speeches from influential representatives of partner organizations and the Egyptian government including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates; the Deputy assistant foreign minister for migration, refugee affairs, and combating human trafficking, Wael Badawi; the Head of cooperation at the delegation of the European Union to Egypt, Sophie Vanhaeverbeke; the Chief of the mission of the IOM in Egypt, Carlos Oliver Cruz, and the professor of practice of global affairs and director of the CMRS at the AUC, Ibrahim Awad.
The CMRC is an AUC-based center dedicated to research, education, and outreach on international migration, building a new generation of experts in the field.
