Biden announces that Israel, Lebanon agree to a ceasefire

US President Joe Biden said during a speech at the White House on Tuesday that the people of Gaza Strip deserve an end to the fighting, after Israel announced its approval of a ceasefire in Lebanon.

“The people of Gaza have suffered horrors, and Hamas now has a choice,” announcing that, “In the coming days, we will push with Egypt, Turkey, Qatar and others, to cease fire in Gaza.”

Biden announced that Israel and Lebanon have agreed to a ceasefire, thanking French President Emmanuel Macron’s efforts in this regard.

He assured in a press conference that there will be no US forces in southern Lebanon and that the agreement is intended to be a permanent cessation of hostilities.

The US President added that within 60 days the Lebanese army will control its territory and Israel will withdraw its remaining forces from Lebanon.

The ceasefire agreement went into effect at 4:00 am on Wednesday, Lebanese and Israeli time.
