The competent authorities in the Red Sea governorate, in coordination with the Health Directorate and the Red Sea Ambulance Service on Sunday rescued the crew of a cargo ship that ran aground on coral reefs off the shores of Quseir city.
The crew, numbering 21 people, consists of different nationalities, including Indians, Syrians, Egyptians and Iraqis.
The rescue process was carried out without any injuries among the crew members, and they were transported in a number of rubber boats to the beach and then to ambulances in order to monitor their condition.
Meanwhile, water continues to leak into the ship which is tilting severely. The captain of the ship warned that it would split in half and sink after heavy water entered the engine room, causing it to tilt and fuel to leak into the Red Sea.
The captain of the ship demanded that the crew be rescued quickly from the ship due to the danger of staying on it, noting that the ship ran out of fuel and food about three days after the accident. He added that this situation threatened their lives after attempts to pull it and drag it to deep water failed.
