Egypt designates Al Alamein and Sohag as international airports

In a major boost to Egypt’s tourism industry, Al Alamein and Sohag airports have been upgraded to international status, ensuring higher safety standards and improved passenger services.

The Civil Aviation Ministry announced in a statement that Borg El Arab and Luxor International Airports have been re-licensed. Engineer Ayman Arab, Chairman of the Holding Company for Airports and Air Navigation, and a number of leaders from the Civil Aviation Authority attended the certificate handover ceremony.  Amr El-Sharkawi, Head of the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority, handed over the licenses to Ahmed Mansour, Chairman of the Egyptian Airports Company.

Obtaining these certificates comes within the framework of the Civil Aviation sector’s keenness to apply all the requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and in accordance with the legislations issued by the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority.

In this context, Samy Hifny affirmed that granting licenses by the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority to both El Alamein and Sohag International Airports and renewing the licenses for both Borg El Arab and Luxor International Airports is a new step added to the series of successes achieved by the Egyptian airports system, which also reflects the size of the capabilities and capacities enjoyed by Egyptian airports in terms of technical and human cadres as well as operational efficiency, in addition to the infrastructure, logistical capabilities and services provided to travelers through them, in addition to emphasizing the continuous efforts of the employees to improve and develop the level of services provided at Egyptian airports, and their keenness to continue working and excelling in performance in various sectors to achieve best operational practices and to ensure the required competitiveness at the regional and international levels.

Hifny added that granting the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority a permanent license for airports as international airports, which is renewed periodically after passing the inspections required by the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority, confirms that these airports meet all the conditions, legislations, and international standards adopted by the authority to approve granting Egyptian airports to operate as international airports, as is the practice in all airports around the world.

Egyptian airports are subject to periodic inspections by the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority to ensure their compliance with all international standards and conditions; and continue their development efforts to obtain continuous license renewal for all airports in the Republic, which contributes to enhancing Egypt’s role in the civil aviation industry.
