Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk met Friday 1/11/2024 with State Minister at Somalia’s Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation Asad Abdulrazak Mohamed on ways to enhance joint cooperation.
The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Regional Forum on Accelerating the Transformation of Food Systems in the Arab Region, held in the Jordanian capital, Amman.
During the meeting, Farouk reiterated President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s directives to provide comprehensive support to African nations and their peoples, emphasizing the strategic significance of Africa.
Agricultural cooperation between Egypt and Somalia exemplifies Arab and African solidarity, working towards shared goals like food security, rural development enhancement, and the exchange of expertise and knowledge, he added.
Somalia can benefit from Egypt’s extensive experience in agriculture, particularly in water resource management, crop productivity improvement, and pest and disease control. This cooperation could also include sending agricultural experts and organizing training courses for Somali farmers, the minister said.
The cooperation could also include addressing climate change and its impacts, such as drought and desertification, which pose threats to agriculture and food production, he added.
