Israeli military says large number of Palestinians “evacuated” from northern Gaza

From CNN’s Alex Stambaugh

A “large number” of Palestinians have been “evacuated” from northern Gaza, the Israeli military said on Thursday, without providing a specific figure.

Israel has intensified its military offensive in northern Gaza in recent weeks in response to what it said was a Hamas resurgence. Health officials warn the area is at “breaking point,” with medicine, food and fuel all in short supply.

Residents, many of whom had been previously displaced, are now having to flee again after numerous military evacuation orders.

The Israeli military also said it had apprehended more than 200 militants in Jabalya, in northern Gaza. Jabalya is home to a sprawling refugee camp that has come under intense bombardment since October 5.

Residents have seen bodies strewn across roads, people starving, and roads destroyed. More than 770 people in the camp have been killed and a thousand wounded during the ongoing offensive, according to Gaza officials, with thousands of others forced to flee.

Israel said Wednesday it had expelled more than 20,000 people from Jabalya in the previous 24 hours. CNN cannot independently verify the numbers.
