President Sisi heads to Russia to participate in 16th BRICS Summit

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi will leave for Russia on Tuesday to participate in the 16th BRICS Summit, due to take place in the Russian city of Kazan, scheduled from Tuesday October 22, to Thursday, October 24.

The summit is themed “Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security.”

This is the first time, Egypt participates in the BRICS Summit after it has officially joined the economic bloc in early 2024.

In statements, the Presidential Spokesman said that President Sisi, during the summit, will review Egypt’s all-round vision and positions regarding a number of important regional and international issues, including means to strengthen cooperation among BRICS member states in a way that ensures the development of multilateral action and contributes to addressing the global political and economic challenges.

President Sisi will also discuss the issue of reforming the global financial structure to achieve the desired balance, with regard to sustaining interests of developing countries in various international and regional forums, in light of the growing negative impacts of international conflicts and crises on the development process of developing countries, said the spokesman.

The President will also address issues of climate change and ways to support joint economic and development cooperation among the BRICS countries, the spokesman added.

President Sisi will post the attendees on Egypt’s firm position regarding the current developments in the Middle East region, and its genuine efforts to calm the situation and prevent the expansion of the circle of conflict and turning into a regional war, a matter that will pose a serious danger to regional and international peace and security.

President Sisi will also take part in the summit of “BRICS Plus” that groups the main BRICS member states, in addition to influential countries and international organizations friendly to the economic bloc.

During the summit, President Sisi will stress the fundamental importance of the “BRICS Plus” meetings in boosting the South-South cooperation.

President Sisi is also scheduled to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, and a number of presidents and leaders participating in the summit, to discuss bilateral relations and regional and international issues of mutual interest.
