Authorities thwart attempt to smuggle drugs worth LE250 million in Ismailia

The General Administration for Combating Narcotics, in coordination with the Ismailia Security Directorate arrested a drug trafficker residing in Fayed district within Ismailia Governorate who was attempting to transport and smuggle a large amount of narcotics from the east of the Suez Canal to the Qantara Sharq district.

The suspect used a furniture transport vehicle to move the narcotics across Egypt – upon searching the vehicle, authorities uncovered 1.5 tons of hashish and two tons of hydro drugs.

The financial value of the seized narcotics is estimated at about LE250 million.

In Matrouh Governorate, the General Administration for Combating Narcotics also arrested a smuggler while he was riding a car in Dabaa city.

He had in his possession 25 kilograms of hashish, a shotgun and a number of bullets.

Another smuggler was also arrested while riding a motorcycle “without plates” in the Dabaa, and he had in his possession six kilograms of hashish.

Ad in Sohag, three drug traffickers including a woman, one of whom has a criminal record, were arrested in the Tahta city, and in their possession were four kilograms of opium, four kilograms of hashish and three firearms – the financial value of the seized narcotics is estimated at about four million LE.

When the suspects were all questioned, they admitted to possessing the narcotics with the intention of trading them on a large scale while the seized firearms in their possession were for the purpose of protecting their illegal trade.
