Egyptian taxi driver jailed for harassing actress Hala al-Saeed

An Egyptian court upheld a one-year prison sentence on Wednesday for a taxi driver accused of sexually harassing Egyptian actress Hala al-Saeed.

The October Misdemeanor Appeal Court “upheld the one-year prison sentence” against the driver, according to Egypt’s state-owned Al-Ahram Gate website.

The incident dates back to last May, when the Egyptian actress revealed the details in a video she posted on her official Instagram account at the time, which she later deleted.

She filed a complaint against the driver whom she had requested through one of Egypt’s popular ride-hailing apps.

Hala accused the driver of “committing indecent acts while she was riding with him, which led her to get out of the car.”

The Sheikh Zayed Misdemeanor Court had previously “sentenced the driver to one year in prison and a 1,000 Egyptian pound fine” based on the charges against him. The ruling was appealed to the October Misdemeanor Appeal Court, which recently upheld the prison sentence against the driver.
