Environment Minister: Egypt keen on unifying Africa’s efforts in new, renewable energy field

Minister of Environment Yasmine Fouad participated Friday 27/9/2024 in the Board of Directors meeting of the African Renewable Energy Initiative.

The event was held on the sidelines of the Climate Week during the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Fouad said the meeting aimed to discuss new and renewable energy projects to be funded by the initiative, as well as several organizational and logistical matters, including the governance document before the upcoming summit, along with the management unit of the African initiative.

She emphasized Egypt’s commitment to increasing reliance on renewable energy and unifying African efforts in this area, thus contributing to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, even though Africa’s emissions account for less than four percent of global emissions.

The African Renewable Energy Initiative aims to accelerate and expand the exploitation of the continent’s vast renewable energy potential. The initiative focuses on developing integrated solutions to increase access to clean energy services, improve human welfare, and place African countries on a path towards sustainable and climate-friendly development.
