CAPMAS: Monthly inflation hits 1.9 percent in Aug. 2024

The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) said that the monthly inflation rate recorded 1.9 percent at 231.1 points in August 2024.

CAPMAS attributed this to the increase in the prices of vegetables by 14.3 percent, transportation by 14.9 percent, postal services by 6.0 percent , home appliances by 2.8 percent, diary products, cheese and eggs by 2.1 percent, hospital services 2.8 percent and fish and seafood by 1.4 percent. 

The agency clarified that newspapers, books, and stationery increased by 0.7 percent and tourism trips by 2.1 percent.

The CAPMAS reported a rise in the general Consumer Price Index nationwide in August 2024 indicating an annual inflation rate of 25.6 percent compared to 39.7 for August 2023.

CAPMAS attributed this to the rise in prices of several categories including fish and seafood by 1.4 percent, diary products, eggs and cheese by 2.1 percent, fruits by 0.9 percent, vegetables by 14.3 percent, coffee, tea, and cocoa by 14.3 percent, mineral water and beverages by 1.7 percent.
