Egyptian Cabinet spokesperson Mohamed al-Homosany assured Saturday that there is no change to the load shedding plan previously announced by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly.
“We are currently in the process of building the strategic fuel reserve, whether gas or Mazut,” Homosany said during a phone-in with the privately-owned Egyptian satellite channel al-Mehwar.
“During the third week of this month, the load shedding periods will be ended completely,” he added.
“We are currently still in the period of loads shedding for two hours, but we will finish this matter in the third week of July.”
Homosany explained that, “Starting from the third week of July until the end of the summer, there will be no power outages or load shedding, and we will take care to adhere to the Prime Minister’s directives to stop load shedding completely by the end of this year.”
An end to the load-shedding
The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources in Egypt announced early in July that electricity cuts will be suspended starting from July 21 until the end of summer on September 21.
This will last for a period of about 63 days, as the Prime Minister announced in previous statements.
Ministry spokesperson Hamdi Abdel-Aziz explained that up to 21 liquefied gas shipments will arrive in Egypt during July, August, and September in addition to other shipments of diesel to solve the electricity outage crisis.
