Daylight saving time in Egypt will be implemented starting April 26 and continue until October 31.
The return of daylight saving time in Egypt comes after seven years of its cancellation, officially reinstated on April 28, 2023.
Daylight saving time is based on advancing the clock by 60 minutes, aiming to rationalize energy in light of economic conditions and changes that the world is witnessing, according to Cabinet statements.
The Electricity Ministry previously said that based on a study, daylight savings time will contribute to saving US$25 million by saving gas units used in electricity production.
In general, saving one percent of electricity consumption results in savings of $150 million per year.
Daylight savings time was first introduced in Egypt in 1940. It was suspended multiple times and officially reinstated on April 28, 2023.
