President Hosni Mubarak will inaugurate Egypt's new Museum of Civilization in September of next year, Minister of Culture Farouk Hosni announced this week.
“Committees will be drawn up to follow up on progress on the museum and efforts will be coordinated between all parties responsible for its implementation,” Hosni said in a statement on Monday. “Work will continue on all parts of the museum simultaneously to ensure it is completed in a timely manner.”
According to the minister, the museum will showcase some 50,000 pieces of art that “portray the history of Egyptian civilization." He went on to note that the transferal of artifacts would begin next week, when they would be stored in storage rooms until they can be displayed in the museum.
Hosni recently held a closed-door meeting with project managers to ensure the museum was completed on schedule.
Hosni visited the museum in January, when he decreed that the project be completed within one year’s time.
