The Cairo Opera House, headed by Khaled Dagher, is holding a cultural evening titled “Fifty Years of Presence… Taha Hussein” on Monday evening at seven pm in the Small Hall.
The event is being held in the presence of journalist Tarek al-Taher, former editor-in-chief of Akhbar al-Adab newspaper, writer and critic Ehab al-Mallah, and moderated by writer Nashwa al-Hofy.
It revolves around the dean of Arabic literature, Taha Hussein, and his life’s journey during which he overcame many challenges.
It also reviews examples of his writings and their extended intellectual and literary influence.
Born on November 15, 1889, Hussein was a distinguished university professor and a uniquely enlightened, modern progressive thinker. He is considered one of the most prominent figures in the modern Arab literary movement.
He died on October 28, 1973.
Hussein’s ideas still raise controversy even to this day.
