White House: Biden’s visit to Amman cancelled in coordination with Jordan King

The White House on Wednesday announced the cancellation of US President Joe Biden’s visit to the Jordanian capital, Amman in coordination with Jordan’s King Abdullah II.

The spokesperson for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry Ahmed Abu-Zeid also announced the cancellation of the quadripartite summit scheduled to be held in Amman on Wednesday, in light of the bombing of al-Ahli Arab Hospital (AKA Baptist hospital) in the Gaza Strip, and the killing of hundreds of Palestinians as a result.

Jordan and Egypt cannot receive Palestinian refugees, Jordan’s King Abdullah II said on Tuesday, calling the issue a “red line” and stressing that the humanitarian situation must be dealt with within Gaza.

King Abdullah II added in joint statements with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz after their meeting in Berlin that the suggestion of Egypt and Jordan hosting refugees is an approach from “the usual suspects” to create a new complicated issue on the ground.
