The promotional campaign launched by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities represented by the Egyptian Tourism Promotion Authority, in cooperation with the Wego search and travel engine, from January to July 2022, in a number of targeted Arab markets, increased e-search for Egypt by 151 percent compared to the corresponding period in 2021, according to Wego travel and search engine indicators.
Amr al-Qady, CEO of the Egyptian Tourism Promotion Authority, explained that Egypt was one of the top tourist destinations that were searched on the Wego search engine, compared to other countries that were searched on the same website.
Individual travelers had the largest share of searches for Egyptian tourist destinations, a rate of 79 percent compared to the same period in 2021, followed by families, Qady said.
The campaign was launched within the framework of cooperation between the the Egyptian Tourism Promotion Authority and Wego, which is one of the largest search and trip engines in the Middle East and North Africa, with the aim of promoting tourism and attracting more tourists to Egypt throughout the year, Qady added.
The campaign was launched in three phases at different times to coincide with the times preferred by tourists in the Arab market to take tourist trips.
Director General of the Tourism Promotion Department at the authority, Suzan Mustafa, stressed the importance of diversity in advertising, especially those specialized in tourism.
The campaign made it possible to benefit from the large Wego user base in the Middle East and North Africa, which will contribute to increasing the tourist flow to Egypt through promotional campaigns that highlight the tourist and archaeological destinations, Mustafa said.
The campaign included direct advertisements and some articles on Wego about the most important tourist and archaeological destinations and various tourist activities in Egypt.
