Suez Canal resumes navigation after two-day closure

Suez Canal traffic returned to its normal rate on Monday, following a two-day closure due to poor climatic conditions.

An official source at the Suez Canal Authority said that authorities had allowed the passage of 38 vessels that had been held up in Port Said until the weather improved.

He added that the canal authority was interested foremost in ships’ safety and had therefore prohibited the transit of ships due to the severe weather that hit Egypt on Saturday and Sunday.

In a related development, fishing boats resumed operations in the Mediterranean Sea following the reduction of wind speeds and wave height.
