Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi will travel to Berlin on Sunday, at the invitation of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, to participate in the 13th Petersberg Climate Dialogue on Monday, under the co-chairmanship of Egypt and Germany.
The spokesperson for the Egyptian presidency, Bassam Rady, said that the Petersberg Climate Dialogue is one of the important stations before the upcoming session of the global climate summit in Sharm el-Sheikh in November, because it represents an opportunity for consultation between a large group of active countries in the efforts to confront climate change.
Egypt’s invitation to co-chair this important forum comes in appreciation of the vital role played by Egypt in the framework of climate change negotiations over the past years, he noted.
The visit to Berlin is scheduled to witness Sisi’s meeting with a number of German officials, led by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, to discuss ways to enhance bilateral relations at all levels, as part of the two countries’ keenness to strengthen cooperation and continue intensive consultations on issues of common interest.
Egypt’s Ambassador to Germany Khaled Galal stressed the great importance of Sisi’s visit to Germany.
He explained it will have a significant impact in advancing the process of joint cooperation between the two friendly countries and their bilateral relations, as well as exchanging views on regional and international issues of common interest.
Galal indicated that this visit is the first for President Sisi under the new German government that was elected in December 2021, which is unprecedented as it consists of three parties.
He said that Germany is a close partner to Egypt in many fields that cover almost all aspects of cooperation.
The commercial cooperation between the two countries amounts to six billion euros annually – import or export – in addition to the presence of three thousand German companies, whether they are already operating in Egypt or have branches or representative offices there.
