The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) announced that football star Mohamed Salah will not take part in Egypt-Ethiopia match, scheduled on Thursday, in the second round of the Africa Cup of Nations 2023 qualifiers to be held in Cote d’Ivoire.
“The technical staff of Egypt’s first football team, led by Ihab Galal, preferred to rest Mohamed Salah in the Ethiopia match scheduled for June 9, after he conducted x-rays that showed he had a light strain,” the Egyptian Football Association said, through its official pages on various social media websites, Monday.
Doubts are still swirling about the participation of the other striker, Mahmoud Trezeguet, in the match.
The EFA said: “Trezeguet underwent x-rays that proved that he had a muscle strain, and his position on catching up with the Ethiopia match will be yet determined.”
The Egyptian Football Association also said that Mohamed al-Shennawy, goalkeeper of the Pharaohs team, recovered from the coronavirus and participated in a training session, Monday.
