The spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, Hossam Abde-Ghaffar, assured that the precautionary measures taken by the government to prevent COVID-19 are the same as those that protect against influenza infection.
The spokesman’s statements came in response to what was published about the emergence of a new double infection of COVID-19 and influenza, dubbed Florona, in Israel.
Abdel-Ghaffar pointed out that with the beginning of the epidemiological spread of coronavirus in January 2020, and scientists are talking about the possibility of infection with the coronavirus and influenza at the same time.
He stressed the need to adhere to social distancing, not to be in crowded or poorly ventilated places, to wear facemasks, and to wash and disinfect hands on an ongoing basis.
The Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper said that the reported infection was of woman who was not vaccinated against the two diseases, inside a maternity medical center.
Doctors are following up on the case that did not show strong symptoms, in an attempt to find out whether a double infection of the two viruses could lead to a more serious infection.
Israeli officials believe that several patients were infected with the two viruses together previously, but their cases were not diagnosed.
