Damietta Governor Manal Awad announced the launch of the “Women-Friendly Cities” program in Ezbet al-Borg on Saturday, implemented by the UN.
The inauguration will be attended by the President of the National Council for Women Maya Morsy, head of the UN delegation in Egypt Christian Berger, and his wife Marilena Berger, Awad said.
The inauguration ceremony will lay the foundation stone for the branch of the National Council for Women in Shata, on an area of 1,500 square meters and cutting the opening ribbon for the women-friendly area inside the Egyptian Public Library in Ezbet al-Borg.
It will also photograph 20 women in preparation to obtain national ID cards for them, as part of the council’s initiative to issue national ID cards for incapable women, breadwinners, widows and others for the first time, free of charge.
Awad said that attendees will then inspect the council’s exhibition of woodwork, handicrafts and furnishings made by women, as part of “Sit al-Dar” initiative launched by the Equal Opportunities Unit in partnership with the NCW, to market a variety of sweets, pastries, dairy products and other food products made by women.
She added the Women-Friendly Cities project is the product of fruitful cooperation with the NCW using a UN grant.
It is implemented in the vicinity of the Egyptian Public Library in Ezbet al-Borg, and includes facilities, gardens, and an integrated area for children to read, while providing different services for women and their children in the city and the entire Damietta governorate.
