Former IAEA director Mohamed ElBaradei says Egypt's upcoming parliament does not reflect genuine representation of Egyptians, as it was formed through voter fraud and manipulation.
In a text message published on Twitter and Facebook on Wednesday, ElBaradei said the electoral process of the People's Assembly, the lower house of parliament, lacked transparency and was administered by an executive authority with unlimited powers.
ElBaradei has led a popular campaign for political change since his retirement as chief of the UN nuclear watchdog early this year. He spearheaded the formation of the National Association for Change (NAC), which urged a boycott of the recent elections, citing fraud guarantees.
ElBaradei returned to Egypt on Sunday after a several-week visit to Vienna. His supporters say he plans to tour a number of cities to promote political and constitutional reform.
The ruling National Democratic Party (NDP) scored a landslide victory during the recent elections. Opposition groups say the polls were marred by wide-scale ballot rigging in the favor of NDP runners.
