The Egyptian Armed Forces’ Chief of Staff Mohammed Farid on Sunday inspected the military equipment used to confront the coronavirus outbreak nationwide.
He then heard a detailed presentation regarding possible scenarios to deal with urgent situations, and the Armed Forces Logistics Authority’s measures to confront the novel coronavirus – such as storing urgent foodstuff reserves and providing training on preventive measures.
The Armed Forces’ Fire and Rescue Department provided firefighting vehicles with antiseptic solutions for disinfection and sterilization in open areas and a giant air exhaust system to disinfect flats and buildings.
The army’s transport department will also provide the Chemical Warfare Department with water needed for sterilization and disinfection solutions, and will also transport all medical equipment and foodstuff.
Farid then listened to a presentation regarding the Chemical Warfare Department using virologic analysis through PCR devices.
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Saturday issued a decree to suspend schools and universities for two weeks beginning Sunday as part of a comprehensive plan to face the coronavirus outbreak.
A statement by the Egyptian Presidency said that Sisi allocated LE100 billion to finance this comprehensive plan and its precautionary measures.
Egypt has registered on Sunday 17 new cases infected with the novel coronavirus, including two cases from abroad, one from Saudi Arabia and the other from the UAE, bringing the country’s total up to 110.
Only two deaths have been reported thus far: a 60-year-old Egyptian woman who died on March 12 and a 60-year-old German tourist who died March 8.
