Eighty-four students suffered nonlethal suffocation at the Hussein Mersal Technical Secondary School in the Mahmoudiya waterway area, due to fumes from the Old Kima factory in Aswan.
Aswan governor Ahmed Ibrahim, the under secretary of Ministry of Health in Aswan Ihab Hanafy and Director of Ambulances Mohammed al-Dekhely moved to the school to check on the condition of the students.
Ibrahim requested ambulances arrive to transfer 54 of the injured students to the Public Aswan Hospital and 30 other students to the Specialized Aswan Hospital.
The injured students received treatment and left the hospitals in good condition.
Ibrahim urged the school to suspend the acid section work, and file a violation report from the Ministry of Environment’s General Administration for Environment after factory fumes caused air pollution in several residential districts in Aswan.
