Sisi inaugurates Egypt Defense Expo EDEX 2018

 

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Monday opened Egypt’s first international exhibition for defense and military industries, EDEX 2018.

After the inauguration, Sisi inspected exhibition pavilions starting with the Egyptian Pavilion for Technical Research which encompasses weapons, air defense systems, electronic warfare systems, explosives detection, and protection suits against terrorist threats.

Several Egyptian and foreign officials attended the opening ceremony of Egypt Defense Expo 2018, including Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Defense Minister Mohamed Zaki, as well as 10 defense ministers from the UAE, Oman, Sudan, France, Greece, Cyprus, South Sudan, Cameroon, South Korea and Somalia, as well as seven Chiefs of Staff, and seven Military Production ministers from friendly countries.

The exhibition is held on 17,000 square meters and attended by 373 international companies from 41 countries.

The event, due to be held every two years, is expected to be attended by more than 10,000 senior military and defense equipment manufacturers over a three-day period.

The exhibition includes interpreters in all languages of the world to facilitate communication with all participating delegations, as well as a large media center equipped with the latest international means.

According to the official website the EDEX 2018 “presents a brand new opportunity for exhibitors to showcase the latest military and security technology, equipment and systems across land, sea & air.”

It describes Egypt as “the ideal setting for a large-scale event for the sector. In addition, Egypt has historically maintained continuous investment in the latest weaponry as a defense strategy and has strengthened national production lines across a range of military complexes.”
