Burglars broke into Mohammed Ali Pasha palace Tuesday after they unlocked the office door of the trustees and stole keys for other rooms in the palace. The committee responsible for inaugurating Mohammed Ali Pasha palace in Shubra area, Cairo, announced the break-in.
Both Public prosecution and the Tourism and Antiquities Police were notified to trace the burglars’ fingerprints and initiate investigations on the incident, Chief of Museum Sector at the Ministry of Antiquities, Elham Salah said.
None of the archaeological artifacts in the palace were stolen, Salah asserted after a preliminary inspection of the palace.
After the prosecution finishes a full forensic investigation, a committee will start inventory work of the grounds to confirm nothing was stolen, she added.
The Palace of Mohammed Ali Pasha has been a significant location in Egypt’s modern history. Alone, it is a rare archaeological masterpiece dating back to 200 years, combining both Western and Islamic art styles.
