Red Sea Governor Ahmed Abdallah has banned people that are not resort guests from beaches in the governorate, canceling day-use services, and referring violators to investigations.
Abdallah’s sanctions are part of the measures being enforced to secure tourists in the governorate after Friday’s attack in which two German tourists were killed and four others injured.
The attacker reportedly purchased a day-use ticket for the beach, and carried out the attack the same day.
The governor, accompanied by Security Director Major General Mohamed Tawfiq, arrived in Hurghada to check on security services and procedures, following the incident.
Abdallah told officials from the German Embassy in Cairo that it was an isolated incident.
Police officials held a meeting with security directors of hotels and tourist resorts to review the security procedures and ensure compliance with all notifications sent to them by police.
Ehab Shukri, vice president of the Tourism Companies Chamber, said that the impact of the accident will not affect bookings for another two weeks, and that there is an understanding that it was an isolated incident.
