France will fund energy projects in Egypt for a sum of 175 million euros, including 150 million euros toward electricity works and 25 million euros in the petroleum sector, according to France's secretary of state for the ministry of foreign affairs, Jean-Marie Le Guen, during his meeting with Egyptian International Cooperation Minister Sahar Nasr at the ministry headquarters.
Joint future cooperation between Egypt and France was discussed during the meeting, which was attended by French Ambassador to Egypt Andre Parant.
A statement by the ministry said that Nasr highlighted the strong bilateral ties on all political and economic levels, which is considered as a base for cooperation in fields of developmental funding for projects in all fields.
The two officials tackled the future vision toward French-Egyptian developmental cooperation and discussed the new projects proposed over the coming period, including development of Raml Tramway in Alexandria, health care support projects in all Egyptian governorates, among others.
They also mulled developments of agreements signed by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and his French counterpart Francois Hollande, during the latter’s visit to Cairo in April.
France carried out several pivotal projects in Egypt, including the three metro lines, equipping the new Qasr al-Aini hospital, establishing the information system of Biblioteca Alexandrina, electricity stations, establishing and expanding the landline telecommunication centers in several governorates, expanding drinking water and drainage stations, developing the air traffic control, Le Guen said.
Meanwhile, Nasr praised the role of the French Development Agency in boosting cooperation ties between Egypt and France, saying that it funded several pivotal projects including the third metro line in Cairo with its second and third phases, as well as the small- and micro-sized projects by the Social Fund for Development.
The projects supported also include providing natural gas at residencial houses, supporting the small- and medium-sized enterprises in agriculture, in addition to improving drinking water and wastewater services.
