
The governor of Monufiya, Hesham Abdel Baset, announced a state of alert and to take precautionary measures against expected floods during the winter season.
In a meeting Friday with local officials in Monufiya, Abdel Baset confirmed that vacations have been canceled until next Sunday during which time rain of medium strength are expected to occur.
Meteorologists meanwhile expect warm weather Saturday in the Lower Egypt extending toward the northern region of Upper Egypt. Hotter weather is expected in the southern region of Upper Egypt during daylight hours that will turn colder at night.
Along the north coast and in the southern cities of Halayib and Shalateen, low and medium level clouds are expected accompanied by medium strength rain. Mist will affect visibility in the morning from northern to central Egypt.
Wind will mostly come from the northeasterly direction and be moderate in strength. It will be active in the Mediterranean Sea, possibly disrupting navigation.
Waves in the Mediterranean will range from two meters to two and half meters high, with a northeasterly surface wind. In the Red Sea, waves are expected to range between one and a half to two meters high, with a northwesterly surface wind.
Maximum temperatures expected on Saturday in Cairo: 25C, in Alexandria: 25C, in Sharm el-Sheikh: 29C, in Luxor: 30C, and in Aswan: 33C.
